The Red Planet by michaelanderson The Red Planet by michaelanderson
The incandescent lamps of the village of Jericoacoara cast a warm glow over the coastal sand dunes during this 25 second exposure of the Milky Way and Southern Cross. The otherworldly scene is reminiscent of the photos NASA has published from the Mars rover 'Opportunity'. The Southern Cross is at the lower right of the Milky Way.

Jericoacoara, Brazil.

Stupendous shot. this is really fantastic. Can I ask what the exposure info and focal length were? I've been meaning to take a milky way shot on my next trip.

ISO 2500, that would explain why it didn't come out with a lot of noise. I've got the 17-40 f4 with a 5D mk III and have been wondering if I could pull off a similar kind of shot.

Never tire of photos of a clear night-time sky. We city folks forget what lies over our heads at night. Our ancestors enjoyed this view on a regular basis. Amazing. Now we sometimes have to drive a considerable distance just to find enough ambient darkness to allow us to see this sort of thing. The foreground is a nice contrast! Thanks for sharing. :)
